Getting Started with EmailTestLab
Welcome to EmailTestLab! This guide will help you create your first email test in under 5 minutes.
What is EmailTestLab?
EmailTestLab is a comprehensive email testing platform that helps you:
- Preview emails across 6 major email clients (Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, Yahoo, ProtonMail, Thunderbird)
- Test on multiple devices - Mobile, Tablet, and Desktop views
- Toggle dark mode instantly to see how your email adapts
- Run 13 quality tests to catch issues before you send
- Check accessibility for WCAG compliance
- Analyze compatibility with email client CSS support
Creating Your First Test
Step 1: Log In
Go to emailtestlab.info/login to create a free account or sign in.
Step 2: Click "New Test"
From your Overview dashboard, click the "New Test" button to start.
Step 3: Add Your Email in the Editor Tab
The Editor tab is where you input your email. You can:
- Paste HTML - Copy your email HTML directly into the code editor
- Upload File - Click "Upload" to select an .html file from your computer
Fill in the metadata:
- Subject Line - Your email's subject
- Preview Text - The preheader text (shown after subject in inbox)
- From Name - The sender name to display
- Sender Domain (optional) - For SPF/DKIM/DMARC authentication testing
Step 4: Run the Test
Click the "Run Test" button (purple button at the top right). The test typically completes in 2-3 seconds.
Step 5: Save Your Test
After results appear, click "Save Test" to keep it in your test history. You can organize saved tests into folders.
Understanding Your Results
After your test completes, you'll see 6 tabs with different views of your email:
Preview Tab
See your email rendered across 6 email clients:
- Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, Yahoo, ProtonMail, Thunderbird
Toggle between:
- Device views: Mobile, Tablet, Desktop
- Light/Dark mode: See how your email adapts
Inbox Preview Tab
See how your email appears in an inbox list - showing your subject line and preview text as recipients would see it.
Email Testing Tab
View your overall quality score and 13 individual test results:
- Spam Score
- Link Validation
- Domain Authentication
- Subject Line Analysis
- Preview Text Optimization
- Email Size & Gmail Clipping
- Plain Text Ratio
- Unsubscribe Link
- HTML/CSS Validation
- Mobile Optimization

Organizing Your Tests
Folders
Create folders to organize tests by campaign, client, or project:
- Go to Folders in the sidebar
- Click "New Folder"
- Give it a name and start adding tests
Test History
All saved tests appear in your Overview. You can:
- Retest - Run the same email through tests again
- View - Open past test results
- Delete - Remove tests you no longer need
